Secure access routes with ice detection – Henning Mortensen A/S
Collaboration between Hans Buch A/S and Glen Dimplex helps a customer at Henning Mortensen A/S to get safely and ice-free through the cold winters.
Ice detection helps you safely and ice-free through the cold winters
The Challenge
Black ice and slippery access roads – a company’s worst nightmare in winter. Ice layers can appear without you being aware of it. This can lead to accidents in parking lots and other areas outside your business. Places where, as a company, you have a responsibility to minimize the risk of accidents due to snow and ice.
It was this responsibility that led the craft and technical contractor company Henning Mortensen A/S to contact Glen Dimplex – one of the world’s largest suppliers of electric heaters and solutions. Henning Mortensen A/S had been tasked with helping a customer minimize the risk of ice and snow accidents on a ramp at their parking area. This required a solution that could keep the ramp frost-free, thereby avoiding damage and accidents.
To find the best solution, Glen Dimplex sought advice from Hans Buch A/S. With a bit of technical advice, they found a solution that can minimize ice and snow-related accidents and mishaps.
The Solution
Together, Hans Buch A/S and Glen Dimplex found the most effective system solution to solve the customer’s challenge. A solution consisting of heating cables controlled by an ice detector system from Eberle.
The system from Eberle consists of a moisture and temperature sensor, an ice and snow sensor, and a controller to manage it. This made the system the ideal choice to control the heating cables. By measuring moisture and temperature, the detector can detect ice formations before you can see them yourself. And most importantly, before accidents and mishaps can occur – even with black ice. The system’s controller also determines the optimal connection time. This means that the ice detectors always turn on in good time to prevent ice formation, i.e., before the temperature reaches freezing point.
Since the system only turns on when there is a risk of ice formation, unnecessary energy waste is also avoided.

To ensure a high degree of user-friendliness, the sensors were mounted in a sensor pocket. A stainless steel cylindrical container, which is cast into the ramp. This makes it easy to replace the sensors. The controller is installed in a control cabinet, from which the customer can manage the system.
The Result
With the solution from Glen Dimplex and Hans Buch A/S, Henning Mortensen A/S has helped their customer reduce the risk of ice and snow-related accidents and mishaps where their customers frequent. They no longer need to worry about a slippery ramp with black ice. Ice and snow will automatically melt and run off where the solution is installed. Henning Mortensen A/S has thus ensured that their customer can always get safely through the cold winters in the future.
