New conveying solution for hot and abrasive materials

When Dansk Kvarts Industri A/S once again faced a complex conveying challenge, Hans Buch, in collaboration with engineer Christian Sinding and supplier Kami, delivered a new solution based on vibratory conveyors. The result was dust-free, low-maintenance conveying of sand for further processing – with a capacity of 60 tonnes per hour.

Customer testimonial

Worn belt conveyors caused stoppages and extra work

Dansk Kvarts Industri A/S had previously worked with Hans Buch on a conveying project and was contacted again when two existing belt conveyors caused new problems in production. They transported sand from a rotary dryer into the building and onwards to a bucket elevator, but the system was expensive to maintain, required daily cleaning and caused breakdowns and production stoppages.

At the same time, the customer had a clear requirement for the new conveying solution: it had to handle hot and abrasive materials, preferably with as few transfer points as possible. This made the task more complex, as the desired solution was longer than the 8-metre troughs that had previously been supplied and recommended in Denmark.

A specially developed conveying solution with two vibratory conveyors

Hans Buch took on the challenge together with independent engineer Christian Sinding and supplier Kami. Vibratory conveyors were chosen because they can transport materials in a closed system without spillage and with minimal maintenance, even when the materials are hot and abrasive.

The solution was a 12-metre-long, free-oscillating vibratory conveyor which, according to the case study, is the longest of its type supplied in Denmark. To carry the sand all the way into the building and onwards to the bucket elevator, an additional 7-metre vibratory conveyor was developed, positioned at a 90-degree angle beneath the long conveyor. The location of existing machinery and the confined space within the plant also had to be taken into account.

The original case study describes how the solution required a different design approach, thinking along the same lines as aircraft designers and focusing on placing as little weight as possible in the right places.

The result was a more robust and future-proof conveying system

The completed solution now transports 60 tonnes of material per hour for further processing. According to the case study, it does so without dust or maintenance, using a solution built to last well into the future.

This makes the case study compelling, because the value lies not simply in the delivery of new equipment. The value lies in Dansk Kvarts Industri A/S having replaced a vulnerable, maintenance-intensive solution with a more stable system that suits the material, the available space and the production requirements.
