Clear visibility in extreme weather conditions is crucial for safety during navigation. With defective wiper systems, one of the world’s shipping companies faced a specific challenge, which Hans Buch solved in an efficient and cost-effective way.
The challenge: A durable solution to replace defective wiper systems
The shipping company needed a short response and installation time to replace wipers on seven of their large shipping vessels. In total, the company faced the task of replacing 19 wiper systems on each of the ships, and therefore Hans Buch had to ensure the delivery and installation of a total of 133 wiper systems in a short time.
The solution: Preserve the intact and replace defective with durable solutions
In consultation between the shipping company and Hans Buch, the solution was to preserve the ships’ existing control systems for the wipers and thus “only” replace the actual wiper systems externally.
– The case is special because, in close collaboration with the shipping company, we decided to preserve the existing control system for the wipers, explains division manager for Hans Buch Marine, Palle Wredstrøm.
The wiper systems come from Hans Buch’s partner Hepworth Marine, which met the demand for an order of 133 Wynn Heavy Duty Straightline Wipers Type C. You can read more about the solution by downloading the file below.
The result: Reduced costs and short installation time
With Hans Buch in charge, the turnkey project was delivered in just six days per ship; some during dry dock, while others were under navigation. During installation, the wiper systems were adapted to the existing control system.
The result is yet another satisfactory solution, which Hans Buch, through dialogue about the task with the shipping company, prioritized to preserve the parts of the ships’ systems that were still functional.
– We always prioritize preserving the solutions and parts that work. With Hepworth Marine’s Wynn wiper systems, we could “only” replace the actual wiper systems, and this significantly reduced the overall costs and installation time to the great satisfaction of the shipping company, says Palle Wredstrøm.
