Clear visibility in extreme weather conditions is paramount during operations during operations at sea. With defective wiper systems, one of the world’s largest shipping company faced a specific challenge, which Hans Buch solved in an efficient and cost-saving way.
The challenge: A durable solution to replace defective wiper systems
The shipping company required short response and installation time to replace wiper systems on seven of their large shipping vessels. In total, the shipping company had a task to have 19 wiper systems replaced on each ship, and thus, Hans Buch ensured the delivery and installation of a total of 133 wiper systems in a short time.
The solution: Retain the intact parts and replace defective ones with durable solutions
In consultation between the shipping company and Hans Buch, the solution was to retain the existing control systems for the wipers on the vessels, and thus, “only” replace the exterior wiper systems themselves.
– The case is special because, as we, in dialogue with the shipping company, decided to retain the existing control system for the wiper systems, division manager at Hans Buch Marine, Palle Wredstrøm, explains.

The result: Reduced costs and short installation time
With Hans Buch as the responsible supplier, the turnkey project was delivered in just six days per ship; some under dry dock, while others were during operations. During installation, the wiper systems were adapted to the existing control system.
The result is yet another satisfied solution, which Hans Buch, through dialogue about the task with the shipping company, prioritised retaining the parts of the systems aboard that were still functional.
– We always prioritise keeping the solutions and parts that work. With Hepworth Marine’s Wynn wiper systems, we “only” replaced the wiper systems themselves, and this significantly reduced the total costs and installation time, much to the delight of the shipping company, says Palle Wredstrøm.
