Cable assembly for industrial cooling applications

In industrial cooling applications, cables can be a critical part of overall functionality. When multiple power and control signals need to be brought together in a single application, this calls for correct sizing, thoroughly tested solutions and a configuration tailored precisely to the system.

When in-house cable production becomes a bottleneck

Many industrial applications require customised cables, but producing cable assemblies in-house can quickly become cumbersome. It can tie up resources, take up unnecessary space and increase the risk of errors, especially when the application requires numerous cables, signals and connections.

In cooling applications with industrial fans and ventilation systems, the cable assembly is more than just a practical component. It contributes to overall operational reliability, as the cables must support correct operation in an application where temperatures and airflow need to be regulated precisely.

Cable assembly is about more than the cable itself

A well-designed cable assembly brings together several considerations in a single solution: lengths, sizing, connectors, distribution boxes, power, control signals and testing requirements. In a large industrial cooling application, for example, the solution may consist of numerous power cables, control signal cables and distribution boxes, all of which must work correctly together.

Cable assembly should therefore be considered a complete solution rather than a standalone spare part. The right solution requires technical advice, concept drawings, ongoing adjustments and testing before it goes into production.

How to approach a customised cable solution

A good process starts with the application. Before the cables are produced, you should clarify how they will be integrated into the system, which signals need to be handled and which quality requirements the solution must meet.

In one specific project, Hans Buch supplied more than 600 sets of cable assemblies to a manufacturer of industrial fans and ventilation systems. The solution included 40 power cables, 13 control signal cables and two distribution boxes. Prior to delivery, the process involved technical advice, concept drawings, adjustments, additions and mock-up testing before the final configuration was produced at My-Link.

  • Map out the application’s functional requirements from the outset
  • Clarify the number of power and control signals
  • Assess the need for distribution boxes and correct sizing
  • Prepare concept drawings before the solution goes into production
  • Test mock-ups and make any necessary adjustments
  • Ensure ongoing quality testing during production
  • Choose a solution that frees up internal resources and reduces the risk of errors

A thoroughly tested solution frees up resources

When the cable assembly is delivered as a complete, ready-made solution, the customer can redirect time and resources from in-house cable production to their core business. At the same time, a customised and thoroughly tested solution provides a better basis for correct operation in the application.

This is particularly important for industrial cooling applications, as the cables form part of systems that may be connected to critical electronic infrastructure. Here, it is not enough for the cables to fit physically. They must be correctly configured, durable and tested to stringent quality standards.
