Ceilometer – also known as cloud height meters – from Hans Buch’s supplier Eliasson is delivered to solve critical tasks for Danish infrastructure. With a total framework agreement of 22 units and spare parts, the customer is future-proofed with a quality solution that surpasses many similar solutions.

A 4-year framework agreement with an order of 22 ceilometers from Eliasson of the type CBME80. With this, Hans Buch’s customer has secured a land-based, mobile, and reliable solution to monitor the weather in real-time, which in various industries and environments contributes to safe operations and activities.

It provides precise measurements, efficient monitoring, and high durability, and with tailored adaptations to the customer’s demands, it is future-proofed with a modern and automated solution.

Ceilometer = cloud height meter

The word ceilometer is a contraction of the English word “ceiling”, which in this context relates to a cloud layer, and the Greek word “metron”, which refers to a measuring instrument.

Strategic goal for the customer’s modernization and automation of weather systems

Hans Buch’s delivery of ceilometers is, according to the customer’s own description, helping to support the strategic goal of modernizing parts of the network of automated weather systems.

The ceilometers are to be installed at various locations in Denmark and Greenland, and in addition to the delivery of the ceilometers, the framework agreement also includes the purchase of spare parts in the form of transmitters, receivers, and power supplies. Furthermore, Hans Buch provides support and training for the customer’s employees to use the ceilometers.

A high-tech solution that improves the customer’s atmospheric monitoring

With the order of 22 ceilometers from Hans Buch, the customer has not only secured a large delivery to cover a large geographical area. The value for the customer with Hans Buch’s solution for cloud height measurements is, for example:

  • Improved precision of cloud height measurements: The ceilometers from Eliasson provide the customer with accurate measurements of clouds and visibility.
  • Efficient monitoring: The customer receives data in real-time thanks to the data communication received from the ceilometers.
  • Technological reliability: Eliasson’s CBME80 Cloud Ceilometer is known for its long durability and is designed to operate in harsh environments and all kinds of weather conditions. The cabinet is rated to IP66.
  • Tailored adaptations: In addition to the ceilometers’ sharp precision and durability, the solution is adapted to the customer’s needs. Among other things, an ethernet connection for data communication, contamination detection, stand, fan to ensure continuous measurement regardless of external influences, and the software Cloud Presentation Suite for monitoring the measurements have been added.

Eliasson Cloud Ceilometer combines safety and environmental monitoring

CBME80 Cloud Ceilometer can contribute to several critical tasks within meteorology, aviation, and environmental monitoring. Here are some key application areas where it is particularly useful:

1. Aviation safety

  • Cloud cover height: CBME80 measures the cloud cover height accurately, which is crucial for flying under visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR). Pilots and air traffic control centers use this data to assess flight safety.
  • Low-hanging clouds and visibility: It can warn of dangerous weather situations such as low-hanging clouds that can affect landings and takeoffs.

2. Weather forecasts and meteorology

  • Accurate cloud measurements: It helps meteorologists collect precise data on the height and thickness of clouds, which is used to predict weather patterns.
  • Real-time data: Live data from the ceilometer enables immediate analysis and quick weather updates, which are necessary in emergencies or for sudden weather phenomena.

3. Environmental monitoring

  • Particles in the atmosphere: CBME80 can also be used to track particles in the atmosphere such as dust, ash from volcanic eruptions, or pollution. This is important in connection with air quality monitoring.
  • Climate research: It provides long-term data that can be used to study climate change and cloud formation.

4. Defense and surveillance purposes

  • Situational awareness: In military applications, CBME80 can be used to assess weather conditions during operations and missions, especially in tactical situations where weather plays a critical role. The ceilometer’s precision and real-time measurements make it a reliable solution to support decision-making in these critical areas.
