Calibrating infrared thermometers, line scanners, and thermal cameras is a complex area. Expert knowledge is required about the effects of various factors such as source size, ambient temperature, linearity, emissivity, and detector sensitivity (%E/oC).
The complexity is further amplified if you are calibrating a high-specification infrared thermometer. If the measurement technique used is incorrect and the thermometer is adjusted, this will destabilize the thermometer. This can affect its repeatability, stability, and accuracy, potentially resulting in the thermometer not working as specified.
Therefore, it is important to employ experts who have the right training and experience to perform verification and calibration.
